Transitioning from Summer to Fall

Hi there!

It sure was rainy this morning when I woke up! Autumn is not quite here yet, but it is definitely around the corner! I was on Pinterest a few weeks ago and found a pin that showed how to transition a maxi dress from summer to fall by layering it with a cardigan and scarf. I wanted to take advantage of today's weather and try it out for myself!

Dress Earthbound Trading Company (Spring 2013, there was a sale going on I just can't remember what it was) // Cardigan American Eagle // Scarf Gift // Belt H&M--came with a different dress // Boots Charlotte Russe (Summer 2013, $7.99) // Earrings World Market

I have felt comfy and cozy in this outfit all day long! Is it guy approved? My husband said there's too much going on, but his friend told me I look "very nice" today. So there you have it: results from my (very) unofficial poll are. . . . .50% of men dig it!

I borrowed the cardigan from my sister, and this morning I realized it has pockets. Sorry Amy, you might not be getting this back! ;)

This outfit was super easy to put together, and I already can't wait to try it out with some of my other dresses this season! I'm excited to experiment with some different colors and patterns. I really like how all of the colors in this outfit worked well with each other.

Casual Friday 9/6

Hi there!

Tonight after work, my husband and I baked some ziti for dinner together, and then settled onto the couch to watch a couple episodes of Once Upon a Time. I don't watch a lot of TV, but we're both hooked onto this show and have been catching up on episodes through Netflix. It sounds like a pretty crazy Friday night, I know!

My outfit today made me feel a little boho. I was really wishing I had a headband to wear across the front of my head to complete my outfit, but then I remembered I really do not like the way I look in them! Some lucky girls can pull it off so well. . .not me!

Top Goodwill: Banana Republic // Jeans Kohl's: SO (Summer 2013, $8) // Flats The Cinnamon Stick: Tom's (Summer 2013, Clearance) // Necklace Charming Charlie (Summer 2013, $13, came with matching earrings)

The sleeves on this top are so fun! They are definitely what drew me to this top in the first place. To complete the outfit, I wore bright pink accessories to coordinate with the pink design in the shirt. The necklace is from Charming Charlie. This store is full of cute, affordable jewelry! Plus, the entire store is color-coordinated. It makes me giddy every time I walk in there. I usually head straight to the pink section right away!

The flats are Tom's. I found them in a fun little boutique in Indiana last summer while visiting my Grandma! It's the best feeling to find cute shoes on clearance when you least expect it! ;)

Shoulder Pads

Hi there!

Today I finished reading: The Catcher in the Rye! I'd read it before a few years ago, but now that I'm older I think I understood it a little better. I had forgotten how funny it was! I was inspired to read it again when I saw the trailer for the J.D. Salinger movie that is coming out later this year.

Today I felt like Barbie because I was wearing:

Top Goodwill: Bleyle // Skirt (Came with belt) Forever 21 (Spring 2012) // Peep-Toe Heels DSW: Jessica Simpson (Summer 2013) // Earrings Charlotte Russe (Summer 2013, pack of 3 for $1.99)

I am obsessed with the hot pink color of this shirt, AND the fact that each of the gold buttons on the shoulders have little anchors on them. I wore gold earrings to match that look like suns. I thought of them as miniature suns rising over an ocean of pink that holds 6 little golden anchors! Clearly I hadn't had any coffee to drink yet as I was getting dressed this morning.

This shirt also has shoulder pads! I've never, ever worn shoulder pads until I bought this shirt. They're not severely sharp or anything, but they're definitely noticeable. I got this shirt from Goodwill, so I do not know how old it is. I remember shoulder pads came back briefly a year or two ago? I love the color and I love the buttons, so who cares if the shoulder pads are "off-trend"? Maybe I'll try to bring them back. ;)

Hump Day

Q: How do you know when it's going to be a Happy Hump Day?
A: When you are on your way to work and drive past a guy taking his camel out for a walk through the neighborhood!

That's what happened to me this morning! I got so excited that I wanted to take a picture, but I decided that probably wasn't a smart thing to do while driving.

Remember last week when I was excited it was finally beginning to feel like Fall? Well, I take it back. Today's high was literally 110 degrees. I'm getting tired of being so hot all the dang time, so I wore a dress that is probably a little too short for the office, but I'm at the point where I'd wear a bathing suit if it was allowed in the dress code!

Dress Goodwill // Heels DSW: Tahari (Winter 2013) // Earrings Francesca's

I bought this dress from Goodwill this summer. I can't find a single tag on it, and I have no idea where it's originally from! I can't even find a hint of where a tag might have been ripped off. The dress is made of a thick material that feels very nice. I love the studs along the neckline of the dress, and the pleats down the front (it may be hard to see in this picture). It's very comfortable, and keeps my legs nice and cool in this insane heat! Any color heels would go with this dress, but I wore my nude pumps today to help give the illusion of longer legs. In the past, I've worn this with bright yellow pumps. The pop of color makes this outfit really fun!

I kept the accessories simple as usual, and paired diamond-studded hoops from Francesca's with the studded neckline of the dress. I felt a little fancy! ;)

Back to Work

Hi everyone!

Back to the daily work grind today! I didn't get too dressed up for work this morning, but I wore one of my favorite shirts of the moment! I love the color of this blouse It's the color my bridesmaids wore in my wedding 3 months ago (I can't believe it's been that long already)!! I don't remember exactly how much I paid for it, but it's from Goodwill so I know it was less than 10 bucks.

Cami Wet Seal // Blouse Goodwill: Heart Soul (>$10) // Pants H&M (Spring 2012) // Shoes Target (Winter 2013, $3) // Necklace Gift

I went to a Bible study after work that has left my heart feeling so full and happy tonight! :) The group has been meeting together for a couple of weeks, but tonight was my first night attending and I wasn't sure how casual I should look for it! I decided to simply swap out my gray slacks for some American Eagle jeans. I still wore the same pair of shoes: sparkly silver flats my sister bought me on clearance from Target for $3! I had a conversation with a sweet girl I met tonight about how flats seem to be so expensive now--$20 or more--and I totally agree. Shoes on sale for $3 is what I'm talkin' about! ;)

(Hi picture that belongs on Myspace :P)

By swapping out my pants, I was able to change this outfit from business-casual to hang-out-with-friends-casual in a total of 2 seconds flat! Planning out two entirely separate outfits in a day? Ain't nobody got time for that!

Labor Day

I sure wish every weekend was a 3 day weekend! Having an extra day off from work was the perfect opportunity to get things done around the apartment. My husband and I did some serious cleaning today. We cleaned every single room and ahhhhh I am so happy to have a super clean apartment, for tonight at least. :P I also had a bunch of extra bananas in the kitchen, so I decided to make some chocolate chip banana bread. My husband begged me to make banana bread with flour, sugar, and butter--no Greek yogurt, no chia seeds, no whole wheat flour. I thought "Eh, it's a holiday" and used a new recipe I found off of Pinterest. . .and mmmmm, is it delicious!

Cami Wet Seal // Top Georgiou (Summer 2013) // Black Skinny Jeans Kohl's: SO (Summer 2013, 50% off) // Shoes DSW: Adrienne Vittadini (Winter 2013)

I bought these black skinny jeans last week from Kohl's! They were originally $36, but they were on sale for 50% off, which made them $18. I had a coupon for $10 off of anything in the store, so I ended up only paying $8 for them! The top is from Georgiou. They were having a sale where everything in the store was buy one, get one 50% off. I love the heart print, and there is a giant bow in the back!

I was a little lazy today, and didn't wear any accessories! Once the weather is cooler, I plan to accessorize this outfit with a big, solid-colored scarf. I might even add a black leather jacket, if I can find a cute, affordable one in the next couple of months!

Tubing

Hi there!

I went tubing down a local river today with some friends! It was my first time at the river and I had a blast, but I was not wearing a cute outfit! My shoes were really the cherry on top of my entire outfit: I wanted to wear water shoes to protect my feet, but Walmart was sold out of Adult Women styles under size 11! I ended up buying Child Boy shoes. . . .that was a first! They did the job though, and my little feet were completely protected. I will not be publicly sharing what they look like though. :P

Also big news: I didn't get sunburned! I applied sunscreen 4 or 5 times, and it worked! I'm not red like a lobster! I'm pretty excited about it.

I hope you're having a great holiday weekend! My husband and I are spending our day off tomorrow doing the Autumn equivalent of "Spring Cleaning". Is Fall Cleaning a thing? It is now!
