Pumpkin + Apple = Love

Hi there!

My dad's birthday was earlier this week, so today my family came together to celebrate it! :) Every year, my mom makes him a banana cake that is super delicious! It is made with a yummy filling that consists of coconut and pecans. My husband, Michael, does not like the taste of coconut at all (crazy, right?), so what does my mom do? Make him his own separate cake, of course!

Isn't she silly?!

Later this afternoon, my sister and I hit up the mall! Whether or not I buy a single thing, the mall is my happy place. :) I could window shop all day long! Today I had some great luck at Bath and Body Works. I love their large 3-wick candles, but they're usually $20 a piece. Today they were 2 for $22! And Bath and Body Works has several new pumpkin scents out this season! They all smell delicious, but I limited myself to only two: Sweet Cinnamon Pumpkin and Pumpkin Apple. I thought "Pumpkin Apple" sounded pretty weird, but I love it! I'm burning it right now, and my apartment smells amazing!! :)

My apartment may now smell like Fall, but the weather sure doesn't feel like Fall yet! I desperately want it to though, and when I got dressed this morning, I tried pretending that it was. I have to admit, I was pretty dang warm all day.

The top I wore today is black with teal leaves and orange flowers all over it. I wore a bright blue camisole underneath to help the teal leaves pop. I also accessorized with these orange earrings because I felt that they matched the orange flowers perfectly!

Black and Brown

Hi there!

Happy Saturday! :)

When I was younger, I remember hearing from somewhere that under no circumstances should black and brown be worn together (neither should black or navy blue). I was careful never to mix them because I didn't want to commit a major fashion faux pas that could easily be avoided. As I've gotten older,  I have come to realize that there are exceptions to most style "rules" and lo and behold, black and brown actually can be worn together. Most importantly, I've realized that I like mixing them!

Shirt H&M (Fall 2012) // Skirt Wet Seal (2009-ish) // Belt Came with a separate dress // Boots Charlotte Russe (Summer 2013, $7.99 Clearance) // Earrings World Market

I bought this top from H&M last Fall when sheer material had become a major trend. I don't think sheer is going away any time soon, and I'm sure I'll be wearing it quite often this season! I bought the skirt a few years ago from Wet Seal. The material is super soft! The belt I am wearing actually came with a different dress. I rarely buy belts because I have so many that have come with dresses and skirts!

I also love the zipper on the back of this shirt. Little details like this make me happy! :)

This photo is a nice little reminder that I need to cut that tag! :P

All photos in this post were taken by my beautiful sister! Hi Amy! :)

Casual Friday 9/13

Hi there!

Happy Friday! :) As I mentioned at the beginning of the week, I was able to wear jeans to work all week long. So today, "Casual Friday", didn't have quite the same jazz to it while I was getting dressed this morning! I was thinking "Hmmmm what's more casual than jeans?", and I laid my eyes on this shirt from H&M that has always reminded me of a pajama shirt! It is over-sized and super comfortable. I picked out some skinny jeans to wear with it, and then came the dilemma of choosing shoes. I tried pairing it with wedges, but it didn't seem quite right. Then I thought "What shoes would go with a pajama shirt? Oh wait! Slippers!" These shoes aren't technically slippers, but they basically feel like it! The only accessories I wore were a pair of big (obviously fake) diamond stud earrings from Charlotte Russe. I literally had sparkle from head to toe! ;)

My sister and I bought each other a pair of these Toms shoes for Christmas a few years ago. haha Great minds think alike!

I sure was thankful that these skinny jeans have some stretch to them when my husband and I went to dinner tonight! We went to Asian Island, our favorite Chinese food place. They have the best egg rolls, and the crab rangoons just melt in your mouth.....mmmmm!

Yup, I ate this entire plate! :)

I sure am looking forward to this weekend! I don't really have much planned, but sometimes those weekends turn out to be the best!

Feeling Pink

Hi there!

Today I wore my favorite color. . . .pink!

I bought this top on clearance from Anthropologie last October. I want to say I got it for $12, but it might have been $15. I love browsing around Anthropologie, but as a broke college student, I'd never bought anything from there before (Well, for myself anyway! I'd bought a candle and a beautiful floral robe for my sister. Seriously, Anthropologie has the yummiest smelling candles!). I'd seen this shirt before when I'd looked around the store just for fun, and was so happy to find one left on the clearance rack--in my size! When that happens, you just know you're meant to bring it home. ;) It's been a year and I still haven't figured out how to get the ruffle in the front to lie flat. I've tried ironing it, but it has a mind of its own! Luckily, it behaved for a split second while this photo was taken. :)

Black and White and Mustard Yellow

Hi there!

Black and white is going to be a hot trend for the next few months, so today I experimented with transitioning a summery black-and-white tank to fall with jeans, a cardigan and some boots (my Fall Essentials)!

I love these boots! I bought them from Wet Seal 3 or 4 years ago, and they've held up well. They are also super comfortable.

Tank Nordstrom Rack: h.i.p. (Summer 2011) // Cami Wet Seal // Cardigan Wet Seal (2009?)  // Necklace Etsy: JGirlsJewels (Winter 2013, $17) // Jeans Kohl's: SO (Summer 2013, $8) // Boots Wet Seal (2009?)

I also love this cardigan, which is from Wet Seal too! I've probably had it for as long as I've had the boots. (I used to work at Wet Seal. Woot woot!) I don't know why, but I'm just obsessed with its color, and I'll most likely be wearing it pretty often this fall--whether "mustard yellow" is a trend or not. :)

Can I just tell you about one of my favorite things at the moment? I don't own it, but oh man I wish I did! I've been dreaming/drooling/wishing over this 2 Park Avenue Beau Bag by Kate Spade for the past few weeks! I want it in all of the colors. . .but especially this one!

Pink & Aqua

Hi there!

This will be a quick post since I need to leave soon to go to a Bible Study!

I was allowed to wear jeans to the office again today! I really like this Silver Jeans Co. pair that I bought from Macy's last Spring. I've had a hard time finding jeans that fit me well in the past, but I've been happy with these!

Cami Wet Seal // Top Kohl's: SO (Summer 2013, 50% off) // Cardigan Goodwill: Kersh (5.99) // Jeans Macy's: Silver Jeans Co. (Spring 2013) // Shoes Target (Winter 2013, $3 on Clearance) // Necklace Charlotte Russe (Spring 2013, BOGO 50% off)

I like how the pink and aqua look together! I do feel a bit like an Easter egg though. ;) I dressed this outfit up with a sparkly pair of flats and a pearl necklace that has an adorable rhinestone-encrusted bow!

Leopards & Mullets

Hi there!

There is a really neat fundraiser going on at my office this week where anyone who donates $5 to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society gets to wear jeans to work every day! You mean I get to donate to a great cause and dress like it's "Casual Friday" everyday?! I'm there! This week I will be wearing jeans much more often than I would in a typical week.

Today I decided to wear a new leopard print top I recently bought from Georgiou!

Cami Charlotte Russe // Top Georgiou (Summer 2013, BOGO 1/2 off anything in the store) // Cardigan H&M (Spring 2012) // Jeans New York & Co (They are hand-me-downs = free!) //Earrings Francesca's // Heels Wet Seal (2007-ish?!)

It's been a super rainy day, and there has been quite a bit of flooding throughout the city! Since it was pretty gray and gloomy this morning when I was getting dressed, I decided I better bring my own sunshine with me to the office--in the form of bright yellow shoes! These shoes pop in my outfit, and they totally work with the leopard print, which is actually considered to be a "neutral"! I bought these shoes for a high school dance a few years ago. I only break them out occasionally, so they've lasted me quite a while.

The top has a high-low (mullet) hemline. I saw this trend in shirts quite a bit last year, and even more often in dress/skirt hemlines this past spring. I guess I'm a little late to the party, but better late than never!

Business in the front, party in the back!
